Publisher's Description: For over three decades the Fiction Collective and its successor Fiction Collective Two have been publishing some of the most innovative and challenging fiction in contemporary American letters. FC2 sustains a commitment to intellectual challenge and artistic freedom unmatched by most commercial publishers of literary fiction. As the marketplace for serious fiction is increasingly coopted by corporatizing, mainstreaming taste, FC2 remains one of the few standard-bearers of a publishing tradition—launched by presses like New Directions and Grove—that seeks to change the canons of taste, to promote artistic risk-taking, and to reward the expectations of readers who want literature to matter.
