Publisher's Description: For over three decades the Fiction Collective and its successor Fiction Collective Two have been publishing some of the most innovative and challenging fiction in contemporary American letters. FC2 sustains a commitment to intellectual challenge and artistic freedom unmatched by most commercial publishers of literary fiction. As the marketplace for serious fiction is increasingly coopted by corporatizing, mainstreaming taste, FC2 remains one of the few standard-bearers of a publishing tradition—launched by presses like New Directions and Grove—that seeks to change the canons of taste, to promote artistic risk-taking, and to reward the expectations of readers who want literature to matter.

FC2 is committed to finding new innovative work and continuously expanding the membership of the Collective, which has grown from six founding members in 1974 to well over 100 today. FC2 does this through its contest and through member-sponsored submissions.

Kissssssss

by Steve Katz
2007 :: ISBN 1-57366-139-2 :: $22.50
At once playful and devastatingly serious, Steve Katz employs a variety of forms—genres, anti-genres, fantasies, games—while highlighting the dangers and delights of contemporary life: Hollywood, tsunamis, war, the art world, AIDS, ambition, weapons of mass destruction, family values, perverse sexualities, urban violence, small change and big bucks, are all used to churn the waters of imagination and truth.

It Was Like My Trying to Have a Tender-Hearted Nature

by Diane Williams
2007 :: ISBN 1-57366-140-2 :: $17.95
“Williams's short, precise, and emphatic sentences build a strange society whose denizens are not quite familiar to us and not quite comfortable with their own quietly disturbing evolutions. Not a single moment of the prose, here, is what you expect, and even the ordinary is, in the context created by Diane Williams, no longer ordinary: it is fresh, happy and peculiar-or is it we who are refreshed, happy, and more peculiar than before after reading her?”-Lydia Davis

Kissed By

by Alexandra Chasin
2007 :: ISBN 1-57366-138-4 :: $17.95

“Until I read Kissed By, Alexandra Chasin's marvelous collection, I never understood what the term "experimental fiction" really meant. Now I get it. Chasin enters each story as if it's her laboratory. She has the great gift of being able to bring us along on her investigation; she seems to hold up each sentence for our inspection. It's thrilling to watch Chasin as she pours her chemicals to find out what will fizz and what will explode. “ -Pagan Kennedy
