Publisher’s description: Hanging Loose Press turned 46 in 2012, making it one of the oldest independent literary magazines in the country. Its name derives from its original format, loose pages in a cover envelope. Today, the magazine is a lot more dressed-up, but the focus remains the same: energetic work by new writers and by the writers who started out with us. Among them: Ha Jin, Sherman Alexie, Kimiko Hahn, Paul Violi, Sharon Mesmer, Charles North, Jayne Cortez, Tony Towle, Maureen Owen, Joanna Fuhrman, Maggie Nelson, Cathy Park Hong—and many, many more. Plus a unique feature: Each issue contains an amazing section of writing by high school students which will knock you off your chair. Finally, each issue features a portfolio by a single artist, among them George Schneeman, Archie Rand, Louise Hamlin, Robin Tewes, and David Borchart.
#102 features new work by David Kirby, Caroline Knox, Katherine Koch, Leonard Gontarek, Ed Friedman, Joanne Fuhrman, Hayan Charara, Bill Christophersen, Martin Espada, Robert Gregory, Ron Overton, many more. Art by Paula North. Special section of high school poets.
