Publisher’s Description: The American Literary Review, a biannual journal, has been published since 1990 through the Creative Writing Program of the Department of English at the University of North Texas. The original intent of the journal, as stated in the first issue, was "to publish poems and stories that reflect the kinds of writing being done in the various regions of America."
We are interested in publishing the best fiction that comes our way, but we do admit a bias toward realistic stories that are well-crafted and which reveal the nuances and complexities of characters and situations that surprise us with their unerring truths.
The poetry we are searching out should challenge the reader's imagination through fresh language, precise imagery, formal artistry, and should demonstrate an attention to the craft and tradition of poetry. We tend to have a bias toward poems that are pleasing to the ear as well as the imagination.
