Publisher's Description: Skipping Stones is an advertisement-free, ecologically-aware nonprofit, international magazine serving the global community. We feature creative art and writing by youth (and adults) worldwide. We encourage cooperation, creativity and a celebration of cultural and ecological richness and nurture diverse perspectives, including from minorities and underrepresented populations. Our readers come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Produced by a multicultural staff and volunteers, Skipping Stones facilitates a meaningful exchange of ideas and experiences. Writing and artwork challenges readers to think, learn, cooperate and create.
Departments such as Noteworthy NEWS, What's on Your Mind?, Dear Hanna, Health Rocks and Parent/Teacher Guide makes reading Skipping Stones an active experience, relevant to issues confronting youth locally and globally.
Theme for the 2005 Youth Honor Awards (for ages 7 to 17) is "My Country, Culture and Community" and will include topics like family and society, traditions and celebrations, tolerance, peace and justice, dreams and visions, youth activism, nature and environment. The Annual Skipping Stones Book Awards recognize exceptional multicultural and nature books and teaching resources.
We have received awards from the National Association for Multicultural Education, Education Press Association of America, Writer Magazine, Parent's Guide and Parent's Choice.
