Manoa: Voices of the Okinawan Spirit
The newest issue of Manoa is Living Spirit: Literature and Resurgence in Okinawa. The publication is a collection of works from the Ryūkyūs, “Most of which have never been translated into English, or are newly translated for this volume. This issue is a “sister” volume to Manoa 2009, Voices from Okinawa – a collection of plays and essays by Okinawan Americans. In addition to the written works, this Living Spirit issue includes a series of photographs by Higa Yasuo, whose subjects include three decades of his study and recording of ancient and sacred religious festivals of Okinawa.
