Publisher’s description: River Styx publishes accessible but smart, unpredictable, and emotionally engaging literature and art. Since our founding in 1975, we have remained a non-profit literary organization free of institutional ties. We will always adhere to a lean and mean production ethic and keep the youthful energy that’s made us, as Small Press Review says, “a beacon of light on which deserving voices dance.”
River Styx publishes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, short plays, graphic stories, and black & white photos or art. The magazine is committed to publishing work from new writers and artists as well as established and award-winning writers, including three Nobel Laureates, five Pulitzer Prize winners, and nine US Poets Laureate (so far). Work originally published in River Styx has been selected for numerous prestigious anthologies, including Best American Poetry, New Stories from the South, The Pushcart Prize Anthology, and Best New Poets.
