Publisher’s description: Cholla Needles was established in 2016 in Joshua Tree, CA by r soos, who previously edited Seven Stars magazine from 1973-1998. Cholla Needles is different in that 10 writers are selected for each monthly issue, instead of using the older Seven Stars model of 40-50 writers per issue. Our purpose is to give the reader a full taste of each writer, not simply a poem or two.

We publish twelve regular issues per year, along with two youth (K-12) issues. Since 2016 we have published writers from Europe, Asia, South America, and North America. Recent writers you may be familiar with include Simon Perchik, Cynthia Anderson, Tobi Alfier, John Taylor, Joseph Millar, Beate Sigriddaughter, David Chorlton, and Susan Rukeyser. We also love to share new translations with our readers and have featured Takuboku Ishikawa, Ernesto Cardinal, Yannis Ritsos, and many more.

"If there was a dream world for a lit mag, being part of a vibrant literary community and helping make it all happen, it would be Cholla Needles." NewPages, Magazine Stand
