Program :: Chatham University Offers Low-Res & Full Res MFA Options

Chatham’s MFA in Creative Writing grows from Rachel Carson ’29, a creative writer known for her social conscience. Our students treat writing as a public act with the power to effect meaningful change. Their ideas, convictions, and writing matters. Our students think deeply about their spaces and identities. They look within then connect to the world with care and intention. Concentrations include travel writing, nature writing, food writing, publishing, social engagement, and pedagogy to complement the MFA degree with genres in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and children’s writing (low-residency only). Additionally, we offer an on-ground full-residency program and a low-residency program.

Applications for A Hotel Room of One’s Own: The Erma Bombeck | Anna Lefler Humorist-in-Residence Program will be accepted Sept. 7-28. Fee: $25. Two emerging humor writers will receive registration, travel and hotel expenses for the March 24-26 Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop, where they will spend two weeks at the University of Dayton Marriott to work on their writing projects. It’s the gift of time to write and free room service. Nancy Cartwright, voice of Bart Simpson, and Mike Reiss, veteran Simpsons writer, will choose two winners. Package value: approximately $5,000. Experience: priceless. Cash prizes for finalists and honorable mentions.

MFA Spotlight :: Saint Mary’s College of California

The two-year MFA program at Saint Mary’s offers concentrations in creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry, combining a studio writing workshop component with an analytical component. SMC MFA faculty are award-winning writers, poets, and committed teachers who offer decades of experience mentoring emerging writers.

Each year the MFA program invites Visiting Writers to work with MFA students. These groundbreaking writers add to the program’s inclusive community with their diversity of experience. Frontier Poetry Partners with Antioch University LA for New Fellowship

Frontier Poetry Antioch MFA Fellowship PrizeOnline literary magazine Frontier Poetry announces a new fellowship in partnership with the creative writing program at Antioch University Los Angeles.

The Antioch-Frontier Fellowship allows the winner to experience one of Antioch University LA’s MFA residencies first-hand. This includes 10 days of intense learning and immersion with mentorship and community opportunities. The fellow can choose between the Summer 2020 residency or the Winter 2021 residency.

The fellowship will cover travel expenses and lodging. Also, it awards a $1,000 cash prize to cover any additional expenses. The Winner will also be published on the Frontier Poetry website. February 15 application deadline. The Editors of Frontier Poetry and staff of Antioch University will select the winner. Learn more about the fellowship at Frontier Poetry‘s website.

Residency: Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts

Applications can now be submitted by visual artists, writers, and composers from across the country and around the world to be considered for a residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. Apply online by annual deadlines of March 1 for residencies between July-December and September 1 for residencies in January-June Residencies are available for 2 to 8 weeks stays. Each resident receives a $175 stipend per week, free housing, and a separate studio.
