Publisher's description: Sheila-Na-Gig online is an internationally known literary magazine that publishes well-crafted free verse poetry. We strive to publish poems with excellent imagery and a strong sense of voice.
Quarterly contests and annual full-manuscript contests (Sheila-Na-Gig Editions) are judged by in-house editors, so the aesthetic for these contests does not change from the focus and voice of the magazine. This aesthetic is grounded in poems that create, rather than report on, an experience for the reader and images that will resonate throughout a reader’s day. We enjoy reading poems with a keen ear for the rhythms of language, but we are unlikely to publish rhyming poems outside of well-wrought traditional forms.
Though open and encouraging to emerging poets, many of our contributors are widely published in journals and have published chapbooks and/or full collections of their work. Recent contributors include Rob Carney, Yuan Changming, Cristina DeSouza, Ace Boggess, Sandy Coomer, and Bruce McRae. Readers will be interested to see that our writers are from all areas of the United States and Canada, Europe, England, Ireland, Australia, and elsewhere.
